Celebrating our production of Bastien et Bastienne, summer 2024:
A beautiful summer’s evening of music, mischief and Morris dancing at Holme Gardens. Mozart’s Bastien et Bastienne is a one act comic singspiel, composed in 1768, when Mozart was just 12 years old. Our setting was a Thomas Hardy inspired and set during the joy and silliness of May Day celebrations.

Lucy Breakwell is a soprano from Dorset studying at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. Lucy, 20, is in her second year of study on the GRNCM Joint Course, a prestigious undergraduate program working towards degrees from both the Royal Northern College of Music (BMus) and the University of Manchester (MusB), under the guidance of her principal study tutor, Yvonne Howard.
Lucy’s initial exposure to classical singing and opera came when she successfully auditioned for the children’s chorus of La Bohème with the Dorset Opera Festival in 2018. Since then, she has performed in other local operas, including the world premiere of Push (Howard Moody) with the Salisbury Festival Group later that year.
Since studying in Manchester, Lucy has performed in Elgar’s The Kingdom with the Hallé Choir, conducted by Sir Mark Elder, as well as the Manchester premiere of Bernstein’s Mass for the RNCM’s 50th anniversary celebrations – both at the renowned Bridgewater Hall.
